I don’t know everything and there are people who know better than I about the details of the history here.
But I do know enough history and have enough pattern recognition and sense of cause and effect to see what’s happened.
In my lifetime, I’ve watched everything that gave Americans peace and prosperity at home and made the U.S. the supposedly greatest country on the planet dismantled by capital. And then I looked into the postwar period before then and saw how much of that prosperity was propped up by brutal violence around the world, crimes against humanity committed to install right-wing governments who would privatize the country’s natural resources and sell them cheaply to American multinational corporations.
Capital has been seeking revenge. For the Civil Rights Act, for the New Deal, even for the fuckin’ Civil War.

During Reagan, the financialization of the economy
and the deregulation
Clinton continued the deregulation / corruption spiral– allowing capital to consolidate further, which allowed them to buy more of the government and corrupt it, which then deregulated more and more to allow them to accumulate more and more.
